REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:  The Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President, Operations, Northwest Community Hospital (CNO/VP) will report to the President, Endeavor Health Northwest Community. The CNO/VP will also report to the System Chief Nurse Executive for Endeavor Health for nursing practice and nursing excellence.

This position includes 12 direct reports, with a total staff count of over 1600. In addition, the CNO/VP will work collaboratively in matrix relationships with regional/system leaders who oversee various professional and support departments at the hospital.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) & Vice President of Operations (VP Ops) is an integral member of the hospital leadership team, reporting to the hospital President and working in close partnership with the System Chief Nurse Executive, the hospital Chief Medical Officer and Support Services leadership to advance entity and system objectives. This person is responsible for leading the nursing organization and also managing the clinical operations functions of the hospital, partnering with System and Regional leaders to ensure local execution aligns with strategic and operational objectives. This role provides people, administrative, financial and clinical leadership for all aspects of nursing and clinical operations, including quality and patient experience, team member engagement, budgeting and expense management, revenue and volume growth performance, and efficiency and effectiveness in nursing and clinical operations. In addition, this executive will oversee Radiology and Imaging Services for the North Region of Endeavor Health, partnering with clinical and administrative leaders at the respective sites of care. Further, the CNO/VP is expected to be an active and engaged leader within the communities served by the hospital to ensure the highest standard of patient care and experience are achieved. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Nursing Operations and Professional Practice
The CNO is responsible and accountable for nursing operations, nursing practice, nursing professional development and advancement, nursing research, and Magnet/Nursing excellence at Northwest Community. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care delivery; ensuring evidence-based practice standards, patient safety, customer service and financial viability; Endeavor Health | Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President, Operations, Northwest Community Hospital and cultivating strong partnerships with community organizations. Serving as a catalyst and role model, the CNO provides leadership and direction in accord with Endeavor Health’s mission, vision, value and nursing philosophy. The CNO ensures integration with the broader Endeavor Health Nursing Organization through dual reporting to the System Chief Nurse Executive and close collaboration with system nursing leaders and other entity CNOs to drive consistency and excellence in nursing practice and workforce engagement.

Hospital and Hospital Ambulatory Operations Leadership
Provides leadership for the hospital’s clinical operational functions, including but not limited to patient care services, ancillary services, hospital based ambulatory services and hospital joint ventures. Reporting to the President, the CNO/VP serves as the most senior leader on the hospital executive team, internally and externally representing the President, as requested.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess the following minimum work experience:

  • Ten years of professional experience in healthcare, including 5 years in a leadership position directing or managing in a dynamic, matrixed healthcare organization.
  • Prior nursing leadership experience at the VP or CNO level
  • Prior experience in other clinical operations preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Experience leading in an ANCC Magnet environment is preferred.
  • Possess outstanding leadership skills including the ability to build consensus and inspire others, while also holding team members accountable and having crucial conversations to advance the Institute and system-wide goals.
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including proficient risk communications.
  • Established interpersonal skills; proven take-charge leadership style; ability to collaborate across functions.
  • Demonstrated abilities in sound fiscal, operational and people management.
  • Demonstrated understanding of OSHA, Joint Commission, IDPH, local, state and other federal regulations and policies pertaining to life safety.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and proven record of accomplishment building and implementing strategic plans.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong people management skills to lead experienced senior leaders as well as coach and develop high potential talent.
  • Ability to effectively present information to executive leadership, management and team members.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Be highly collaborative and team oriented.

EDUCATION & LICENSURE

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or related field.
  • If Master’s degree is not in nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure (possess or to obtain).

In addition, the following credentials are preferred:

  • Earned Doctorate in Nursing (DNP or PhD)
  • Board certification as a Nurse Executive (NE-BC, NEA-BC, or CENP)
