THE OPPORTUNITY

Position: Chief Operating Officer
Location: Arlington, VA
Reporting Relationship: Chief Executive Officer

Key Responsibilities
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is an integral member of the executive leadership team advancing CTA’s mission, vision, and objectives. They will demonstrate an operational and transformative leadership style, executing organizational strategies aimed at fostering CTA’s growth; ensuring efficiency, productivity, and alignment with CTA goals; and enhancing its value proposition for members.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with the CEO, President, senior leadership team, and Board to develop and execute operational and strategic plans.
  • Administering CTA's operations effectively and systematically evaluating overall operational performance against budget and growth objectives; implementing corrective measures as needed; maintaining transparent communications with CTA leaders on these actions.
  • Providing leadership to key Departments including Finance, Legal, Information Technology, and Human Resources, ensuring efficient operations and strategic alignment with organizational goals.
  • Identifying new revenue opportunities including monetizing assets, in collaboration with the executive leadership team.
  • Developing and providing oversight of key organizational performance metrics.
  • Optimizing team effectiveness to ensure operational alignment with strategic goals.
  • Developing and implementing technology solutions to advance CTA’s strategy, growth, and operational efficiencies.
  • Maintaining an effective organizational structure to nurture leadership succession and staff development and ensure efficient deployment of staff resources.
  • Providing support to the Board and relevant Board committees, including presentations at meetings as appropriate.
  • Ensuring CTA adheres to established policies, procedures, legal requirements, and sound and ethical business practices.
  • Comfortably participating in financial budgeting and forecasting activities; and offering insights and recommendations regarding CTA’s investment portfolio as appropriate.
  • Managing CTA’s two building facilities, operations, and related activities, as required.
  • Attracting, retaining, developing, and engaging CTA’s professional staff, including efforts in diversity and inclusion.
  • Fostering a collegial culture of service, collaboration, respect, integrity, and innovation.

Experience and Personal Characteristics
The COO will be critical in driving operational excellence, fostering innovation, and advancing the mission of CTA within the consumer technology industry. The COO will possess exceptional operational leadership skills, alongside a demonstrated record of accomplishment of achievement, credibility, and integrity.

Key qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Executive leadership experience overseeing operations in organizations of similar or larger scale and complexity. Executive experience in the association space a plus.
  • Experience in organizational financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and audit compliance.
  • Experience with large-scale events akin to CES a plus.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, influence, and relationship-building skills, crucial for engaging with various stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify organizational needs and align resources to support mission and objectives.
  • Commercial business acumen to ensure the organization is positioned for future growth.
  • Technology savvy, capable of identifying and implementing technology solutions to support operational efficiency and growth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Multi-cultural sensitivity for global engagement.
  • Effective at anticipating and managing organizational risk, with strong problem-solving skills. The agility to pivot and lead change as appropriate.

Working Conditions
Hybrid; three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
