The Opportunity (Chief Pharmacy Officer, University of Maryland Medical System - UMMS):

Reporting to the system Chief Administrative Officer and serving as a key member of the system’s senior leadership team, the Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) will lead the development and execution of a strategic growth plan for the pharmacy services organization. The CPO will serve as a transformational leader in the development of a centralized, enterprise-wide pharmacy services organization, ensuring the delivery of highly effective clinical, financial, operational, and patient-focused services. Working with leaders across the system, the CPO will lead the centralization of existing pharmacy services, as well as future services, into a fully integrated, unified organization to ensure excellence in terms of quality, safety, service, regulatory compliance, and financial performance. This may include plans for new ventures with partners, including payers, to enhance the growth of existing and new pharmacy lines of business, and work across all aspects of the organization to ensure it is in the best position to meet its strategic, clinical service, and financial goals.


The CPO is responsible for the overall strategy, planning, development, implementation, supervision, and administrative leadership of pharmacy programs, services, and business offerings across UMMS. This includes inpatient pharmacies, ambulatory pharmacies, infusion and home infusion pharmacies, retail and specialty pharmacies, prescription benefit management, clinical and population health pharmacy services, and pharmacist privileging systems. In addition, the CPO is responsible for overall pharmacy financial management for the operating and capital budget, income generation, and regulatory compliance, including the 340B program, drug utilization management, drug diversion management and reporting, and pharmacy supply chain management for the system.
