Korn Ferry is proud to partner with Houston Methodist to lead the search for their next Senior Director & Chief Nursing Informatics Officer. This role is based in Houston, TX.

Houston Methodist seeks a strategic, relationship-driven nursing informatics leader who can operate effectively within a complex academic health system and influence change across clinical and operational domains. The successful candidate will combine executive presence, informatics expertise, and deep clinical credibility, with the ability to connect with frontline caregivers while guiding enterprise technology strategy. This leader will thrive in a physician-led, highly collaborative culture that values autonomy, trust, and strong relationships. Success requires the ability to influence without formal authority, navigate ambiguous organizational dynamics, and build alignment across service lines and leadership teams.

As Senior Director & Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO), this leader serves as the strategic nexus between nursing, clinical operations, and enterprise IT — ensuring technology investments enhance clinician experience, elevate care delivery, and improve outcomes across a high-performing, system-wide environment. Embedded within a sophisticated digital ecosystem, the CNIO partners with executive nursing leadership, quality, finance, and operational teams to implement innovative clinical information solutions that advance frontline care and measurable performance improvement. The role participates in an enterprise IT budget cycle offering meaningful influence on enterprise technology strategy and resource allocation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the enterprise nursing informatics executive and strategic liaison between nursing, clinical operations, and information technology, ensuring digital solutions enhance clinician experience, patient safety, and care delivery across the Houston Methodist system.
  • Provide system-level leadership for nursing informatics strategy, aligning clinical workflows, technology investments, and enterprise priorities to support high-quality, patient-centered care and operational excellence.
  • Partner with the CMIO, Chief Nursing Executive, and executive leadership to represent the clinical voice within IT governance, guiding prioritization, design, and optimization of enterprise clinical systems.
  • Lead nursing governance and optimization efforts for the Epic electronic health record, enhancing usability, workflow efficiency, decision support, and clinician satisfaction.
  • Advance mobile-first clinical communication and care team coordination through technologies such as shared mobile devices, nurse call systems, and voice communication platforms (e.g., Vocera), ensuring tools support bedside workflow efficiency and real-time collaboration.
  • Guide innovation and workflow redesign leveraging emerging technologies including AI-enabled documentation and decision support, Epic-native AI tools, and third-party solutions to improve efficiency and reduce administrative burden.
  • Support the evolution of virtual care and smart inpatient technologies — including virtual observation, virtual ICU capabilities, and AI-enabled room monitoring platforms — ensuring bedside workflows are optimized for safety, efficiency, and patient-centered care.
  • Translate complex clinical, operational, and business intelligence data into actionable insights that inform decision-making, optimize clinical processes, and enhance patient safety and quality outcomes.
  • Partner closely with Quality, Safety, and Regulatory teams to ensure clinical technologies support evidence-based practice, accreditation standards, and high reliability principles.
  • Provide leadership for clinical informatics operations, including team development, engagement, and performance management, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in enterprise IT portfolio planning and capital prioritization, ensuring clinical technology investments support strategic growth, operational efficiency, and system-wide innovation.
  • Serve as a change leader across the system, building consensus among diverse stakeholders and driving adoption of new technologies and workflows in a highly relationship-driven environment.
  • Monitor emerging digital health trends and represent Houston Methodist in professional forums to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of clinical informatics innovation.

Experience and Professional Qualifications
  • The successful candidate will bring a master’s degree in nursing, Healthcare Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, with doctoral preparation (DNP, PhD, or an informatics-related doctorate) preferred.
  • An active Registered Nurse license is required, along with eligibility for Texas licensure.
  • This leader will possess a minimum of ten years of progressive experience across nursing, healthcare operations, IT, or clinical informatics, including leadership responsibility and demonstrated impact in complex healthcare environments.
  • The ideal candidate will be recognized for strong leadership capability, including the ability to build and develop high-performing teams, engage stakeholders, and foster enterprise-wide collaboration.
  • They will demonstrate executive presence and exceptional communication skills, translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for clinical and operational leaders.
  • A deep understanding of regulatory, accreditation, and compliance standards affecting clinical technologies and nursing practice is essential, as is the ability to analyze data from multiple sources and convert insights into strategic solutions that enhance care delivery, operational performance, and patient outcomes.
