The American College of Physicians (ACP) is the largest medical specialty organization in the world representing 162,000 members in more than 172 countries. The Executive Vice President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) works closely with the Board of Regents, Board of Governors, senior staff, and members to sustain the College’s national reputation for leadership in internal medicine – across the clinical, academic and research missions.

In partnership with the Board of Regents the CEO oversees all aspects of ACP’s strategy, vision, membership, education, policy, research, publications and more. The ideal candidate is a nationally regarded internal medicine physician executive with deep expertise and experience leading large, complex, multi-faceted enterprises. She or he is a visionary leader who is a skilled communicator, relationship-builder and change agent. In response to the rapidly evolving health care environment, the CEO will ensure the College is positioned to maximize its impact on internal medicine through its advocacy and public policy efforts, programs, products and services, and by pursuing alignment where appropriate to the College’s interests with external stakeholders.

The CEO will develop and maintain strong relationships important to ACP and champion the contemporary priorities for internal medicine physicians around the world. This individual will have a passion for strategy and innovative thinking, demonstrate an appreciation for association management, as well as clinical care, research, and health policy. The CEO must be agile in navigating politically nuanced environments, proactively seek to build consensus, and approach the work with clinical expertise, stewardship, creativity, thoughtfulness, and energy.

ACP and its physician members lead the profession in education, standard-setting, and the sharing of knowledge to advance the science and practice of internal medicine.
