- Provides executive level leadership and oversight of the operations of Baystate Medical Center. Promotes the importance of the mission and values to all constituencies.
- Creates a clear vision and roadmap for areas of accountability, working closely with senior executives to position the organization for future challenges.
- Represents Baystate Medical Center executive leadership on system-wide work groups and projects.
- Develops and leads a cohesive management team, promoting open and honest communication in a supportive environment while challenging them to achieve higher levels of performance and accountability.

Operational Leadership
- Is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hospital.
- Oversees patient flow and throughput for the emergency department, perioperative, inpatient, and procedural areas.
- Directs the operational implementation of the hospital’s strategic and financial plans, incorporating accountability for meeting and exceeding financial and overall performance goals.
- Provides oversight for all hospital operations including setting clear short- and long-term operational goals and resourcing resources to support overall operations.
- Ensures operational efficiencies through benchmarking and quantitative monitoring of operational performance and develops and implements action plans to secure efficient operations.
- Encourages continuous improvement and ongoing innovation, using a growth mindset to raise the bar for performance and care delivery.
- Provides effective executive oversight of facilities and support services and coordinates the operations between the various areas/departments in collaboration with the responsible department heads.
- Leads BMC’s monthly operating review with system leadership.
- Ensures the sound fiscal operation of Baystate Medical Center, including the timely, accurate, and comprehensive development and implementation of annual operating and capital budgets.
- Works through the management team and health system leadership, serving as a resource to help reduce costs, enhance revenues, and achieve effective utilization and quality goals and objectives.
- Monitors financial performance through regular reports and analysis, ensuring alignment with the hospital's financial objectives.
- Collaborates with hospital leaders to identify and implement cost-saving initiatives and revenue enhancement strategies.
Strategic Planning
- Develops, administers, and communicates strategic and operational plans to support the vision, mission, values, and strategic plan of Baystate Medical Center.
- Plans, develops, and coordinates organization capacity and capability to respond to and implement changes in the strategic direction of the health system.
- Develops and implements metrics to measure performance and progress toward strategic goals, ensuring completion of strategic actions at various levels to achieve desired results.
- Develops and implements strategies focused on aligning the components of systemwide services to improve utilization, efficiency, and financial viability. Aligns objectives and programs within areas of responsibility with enterprise objectives and strategies.
Patient Experience
- Embraces responsibility for the overall patient experience at Baystate Medical Center, including receipt of appropriate information and materials, amenities and services, and in alignment with the strategic objectives defined by the health system.
- Implements patient feedback mechanisms to continuously improve service quality and address patient concerns promptly.
- Enhances patient satisfaction through innovative care models and personalized service offerings.
Physician Engagement
- Develops effective partnerships through establishing open communication channels with physicians and medical leadership that result in enhanced trust, alignment, and collaborative working relationships to achieve common goals.
- Provides physicians with regular updates on hospital policies and procedures to ensure seamless integration and compliance.
- In collaboration with clinical leaders, develops an improvement plan focused on patient throughput, clinical quality, growth, and expense management.
Performance Management
- Monitors, analyzes, and evaluates the activities and performance effectiveness within the various areas of responsibility, ensuring progress toward the hospital’s overall targets.
- Establishes benchmarks and best practices to identify areas for improvement.
- Provides regular reports and updates to senior management on performance metrics and strategic initiatives.
- Reviews and evaluates existing systems, programs, and procedures.

Healthcare Executive Leadership Experience
- Proven experience in a relevant leadership role within a healthcare organization, demonstrating the ability to create and implement strategic and operational initiatives.
- Ten years of progressive leadership in healthcare, with at least five years in a senior-level executive role.
Proven Performance Improvement Experience
- Extensive background in developing and managing financial strategies, with a strong track record of managing efficiency and productivity to enhance patient throughput and patient experience, external expense management, and in driving supply conversions in alignment with system contracts.
- Proven capability in revitalizing operational aspects of an organization to achieve sustained improvements.
Healthcare Operations Experience
- Comprehensive experience in overseeing hospital operations, including clinical services, with a focus on operational efficiency and high quality of care. Deep understanding of hospital finances and operational scorecard to quickly identify improvement opportunities.
- A keen operational and business sense, with a solid understanding of the healthcare business; a strategic thinker.
Innovation and Program Development Experience
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and support innovative programs addressing both current and future healthcare needs.
- Proven leadership track record overseeing transformational changes from innovation through implementation while working collaboratively across a diverse stakeholder population to create sustained value.
- A team leader and builder who can inspire, mentor, and develop a strong management team. Able to motivate staff and align efforts with a sense of urgency. A delegator who maintains high standards of accountability.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
