Purpose of the Position
The Head of Communications is a newly created position responsible for developing and executing DPM Metals' global communications strategy to enhance the company's reputation, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and support the achievement of its business objectives. As DPM continues to grow its international footprint and advance projects across multiple jurisdictions, this role will lead the development of a coordinated communications function that aligns corporate, regional and project-level communications efforts. 
Reporting to the Director of Investor Relationships and supervising a Communications Specialist, the incumbent will be accountable for building and maintaining strong relationships with media, industry influencers and key external stakeholders, while ensuring consistent, compelling messaging across all channels and audiences. Specifically, this role supports media relations, issues management, stakeholder messaging, leadership communications, internal communications, and brand awareness across all communications channels. 

Key Responsibilities
External Communications
  • Support the development of the corporate external communications strategy and lead implementation of annual integrated communications plans to enhance the Company’s brand and reputation with key audiences.
  • Draft corporate news releases, scripts, key messages, FAQs, and stakeholder responses.
  • Identify and assess past, emerging, current, and future issues that may affect the Company’s brand and reputation, including issues arising through media coverage or public discourse Drive leadership and accountability and frontline engagement in safety practices. 
  • Develop and execute a media relations strategy focused on increasing awareness of DPM Metals with Canadian and international media, and the develop relationships with key members of the media.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and global communications teams to coordinate responses to media inquiries and ensure consistency of messaging and tone.
  • Manage the development and execution of digital communications strategies to promote the Company and its brand globally, with particular focus on sustainability, community relations, social media, and the corporate website.
  • Proactively monitor corporate, stakeholder, social, and media channels to identify issues and prepare proactive messaging and response strategies.
  • Support management of third-party communications consultants and agencies, including coordination of projects, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Act as a collaborative partner with the company’s global communications team members, ensuring messaging and strategy alignment.
  • Internal Communications
  • In collaboration with Human Resources and other departments, support the planning, development, and implementation of internal communications strategies and plans.
  • Draft and develop communications materials including internal memos, leadership messages, intranet copy, presentations, posters, video scripts, and other employee-facing materials.
  • Manage the global page of the company’s Intranet, and work collaboratively with a cross functional team to optimize the Intranet and increase engagement and readership.
  • Support internal campaigns that strengthen employee engagement, improve alignment with corporate priorities, and reinforce Company values and culture.
  • Ensure internal messaging is clear, timely, and aligned with broader external positioning and corporate brand standards.
  • Brand and Reputation Management
  • Help maintain consistent branding and messaging across all internal and external communication channels.
  • Provide strategic communications advice to internal stakeholders to ensure messaging reflects the Company’s brand, business priorities, and reputation objectives.
  • Proactively identify innovative and creative opportunities to promote the Company’s brand, achievements, and track record.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across regions and functions to support aligned and effective communications delivery.
  • Issues and Crisis Communications
  • Support the development and implementation of communications approaches for sensitive issues, reputational risks, and crisis situations.
  • Monitor events and industry developments that may impact the Company, and prepare communications materials or response strategies as required.
  • Coordinate with senior leaders and subject matter experts to ensure timely, accurate, and appropriate communications during high-priority or high-risk situations.

Events and Stakeholder Communications
  • Manage the organization and delivery of corporate events, announcements, internal meetings, and external engagement opportunities.
  • Support communications for corporate milestones, projects, community initiatives, sustainability-related activities, and leadership visibility opportunities.
  • Prepare briefing materials and key messages for meetings, events, interviews, and stakeholder interactions.
  • Other Duties as Required
  • Support development and maintenance of communications policies, standards, templates, and governance processes.
  • Track, assess, and report on communications effectiveness, media coverage, and stakeholder engagement to support continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to special projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed.
  • Support the onboarding and coordination of new communication tools, channels, or external partners, as required.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to global team members and project-based contributors, where applicable.

Year one critical success factors
  • Establish strong, trust-based working relationships with the Director of Investor Relations as well as other internal stakeholders across various departments, including Financial Reporting, Corporate Development, Operations & Projects, Treasury and Tax, as well as other Corporate and Group functions. 
  • Create a compelling story for DPM Metals that highlights the Company’s history and growth trajectory for adaptation across all internal and external communications.   
  • Develop a comprehensive communications plan and media relations strategy to strengthen DPM Metal’s brand awareness in North America. 
  • Identify media opportunities to enhance executive visibility in North America; initiate media trainings for senior executives to ensure consistency in media response and storytelling. 
  • Increase knowledge sharing across global entities to ensure consistency in media messaging.
The Candidate
Experience and Professional Qualifications   
  • A Bachelor’s degree holder in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, Political Science, or a related field with at least 8 years’ progressive experience in corporate communications, media relations, public affairs, or related roles preferably gained from a publicly listed mining or extractive industry company. 
  • Strong knowledge of corporate communications, media relations (including advanced media relations and response strategies), internal communications, and reputation management practices are essential. 
  • Knowledge of branding, message development, issues management, crisis communications, stakeholder engagement principles, as well as communications planning within a corporate environment gained from the mining, natural resources, or other complex industrial sectors would be highly preferred. 
  • Knowledge of digital communications channels, including websites, social media, and content development is expected. 
  • Knowledge of investor relations and capital market dynamics is considered an asset.
