THE OPPORTUNITY
The Chief Executive Officer of the Infectious Diseases Society of America reports to the Board of Directors and serves as a strategic partner in providing overall leadership and direction for all aspects of the organization. They will be responsible for effectively advancing the Society’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. The CEO is accountable for strategic and operational activities and a team of approximately 90 staff, maintaining a strong organizational culture, and overseeing a budget of $37 million. They also serve as the CEO of the IDSA Foundation, the charitable arm of the Society.

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
The IDSA is advancing infectious diseases research, education, and care by leading nationally and globally in advocacy, communication and by publishing and presenting the highest quality research in its meetings and journals. The past century has been a relentless march of positive progress in health outcomes for humanity — with lifespans growing, survivability of devastating diseases increasing, and some of the worst diseases eradicated entirely. For more than 60 years, IDSA has been a leading force in that progress — by bringing together ID professionals to discuss the pathogenesis, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, the attributes of microbes, specific immune reactions, and the most vexing epidemiological dilemmas.

IDSA is a large and growing Society whose 13,000-plus members represent the diversity and vibrancy of the field. IDSA members include practicing clinicians who provide direct patient care, scientists and researchers in the academic setting, public health officials, hospital epidemiologists, people working in industry, and ID specialists working in many other settings. IDSA members work across the United States and in nearly 100 other countries on six different continents around the world.

Sampling of Partners, Programs, and Initiatives

HIV Medicine Association (HIVMA)
IDSA established HIVMA in 2001 at the request of members who brought to the attention of the then IDSA leadership the need to enhance support and society representation for the 40 to 45% of members who focus on HIV care, research, and/or public health. HIVMA has an elected Board of Directors that serves as an advisory body that reports to the IDSA Board of Directors. HIVMA has an elected voting representative on the IDSA Board of Directors. HIVMA manages a complimentary portfolio of policy and advocacy issues focused on the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, HIV prevention, NIH-supported ID/HIV research, Medicaid and an initiative to end the HIV epidemic but works closely with the Public Policy and Government staff on public health and workforce issues. HIVMA also co-organizes IDWeek, has a separate awards program, and maintains HIV Primary Care Guidance for People with HIV.

IDSA Foundation
Established in 2002 as the charitable and fundraising arm of IDSA. It operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated to supporting IDSA’s mission by funding initiatives that strengthen the field of infectious diseases—particularly in workforce development, diversity, inclusion, equity, and preparedness. The Foundation functions closely with IDSA, the professional association that represents infectious disease physicians, scientists, and healthcare professionals.

IDWeek
The preeminent meeting in infectious diseases, this joint annual meeting of IDSA, HIVMA, SHEA, PIDS and SIDP is designed to update ID/HIV clinicians, investigators, infection preventionists, public health professionals and pharmacists with state of- the-art developments in the field, including timely reviews of recent advances in clinical care and research, and original reports of clinical, translational, and basic research in infectious diseases and healthcare epidemiology. IDWeek bridges the widening gaps among the fields of ID clinical practice and research and promotes multi-disciplinary dialogue and collaboration among clinicians, investigators, and pharmacists, thus facilitating advances in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases.

Clinical Practice Guidelines & Guidance
IDSA has a portfolio of 70+ clinical practice guidelines and guidance designed to support the ID and larger clinician community in the provision of high-quality ID care and services. Recent efforts have led to a re-design of the guideline process to improve efficiency. To assist in guideline dissemination, IDSA maintains a guideline app and offers education online and IDWeek about IDSA guideline recommendations as well as IDSA guideline methodology, evidence assessment and interpretation.

iD365 Mentorship Program
A virtual mentoring program that establishes a relationship between an experienced ID professional and a student, resident or fellow. Dyads are created based on affinity group (race/ethnicity, gender) or ID subspecialty. The goal of the mentorship relationship is to support the mentee's personal and professional growth and sustain an ID career pathway.

Medical Education Training and Support
IDSA offers services targeted at specific segments of the membership population – such as fellowship training program directors and medical educators. Offerings include self-evaluation educational tools to assist physicians with maintaining board certification and workshops designed for ID physicians preparing for the board exam or seeking a general update and review.

Public Policy and Advocacy Efforts to Support the ID Workforce
This includes initiatives focused on strengthening the HIV workforce, funding bio-preparedness workforce, increasing ID physician reimbursement, increasing funding for NIAID, and beyond.

Journals and Publications
IDSA offers three publications providing the latest research, science, outcomes, and perspectives on the field of infectious diseases.
