REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Market Chief Financial Officer reports to the Market President, UnityPoint Health - Des Moines. This position also has a matrixed reporting relationship to the Chief Financial Officer of UnityPoint Health.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Market Chief Financial Officer – Des Moines (CFO) is responsible for financial oversight and performance of the Des Moines market, with $1.8B in annual net revenues. The CFO will serve as a strategic leader by providing insight and recommendations regarding short and long-term initiatives and opportunities. The CFO will play a high impact role on the continued growth and prosperity of this flagship market for UnityPoint Health.
As a collaborative member of the market leadership team, the CFO is responsible for market based long-range financial and capital planning, operating and capital budgeting, financial operations, and other finance related processes necessary to create a world-class finance organization. The CFO works closely with the Market’s President, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Operations leader, and other members of the market senior team to drive efficiencies and ensure the organization’s long-term success. The CFO will also work collaboratively with the health system CFO and other leaders across the organization to achieve system-wide goals.
The CFO is expected to continuously assess and evaluate the financial performance of the Des Moines market’s budgets, forecasts, and short and long-term goals. He/she will foster a culture focused on financial improvement, operational improvement, and accountability. The CFO and their team will provide exceptional customer service and value to various stakeholders. He/she is responsible for establishing strong relationships and maintaining visibility across the organization.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for the Market Chief Financial Officer, UnityPoint Health - Des Moines role will possess the following background, experience, and skills:
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Solid understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the finance function in either a hospital/group setting/health care system or an organization of similar complexity.
- Strong leadership, strategic management, and vision skills with a commitment to innovation and creative solutions.
- Knowledge and experience in finance, operations management, project management, strategic planning and building strong relationships.
- Strong grasp of details, consistently ahead of the curve when it comes to interpreting data, seeing trends and anticipating questions.
- Ability to quickly process new information and point to areas to dig deeper.
- Ability to focus on the needs of the customer.
- Cost containment and revenue enhancement strategies experience will be valued, as will be an overall solid understanding of healthcare operations.

Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a financial leadership capacity. Industry experience should include at least 5 years health system or in a multi-disciplinary, multi-site healthcare operation.
- Not-for-profit financial operations and reporting experience is preferred.
Education / Licensure
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, accounting or other related discipline is required.
- Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
