- Vice President of Accounting and Controller

- Provides overall direction in the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets.
- Prepares and/or reviews annual budgets as well as performance monitoring of approved budgets.
- Reviews and analyzes the monthly consolidated financial statements of MHM and related entities.
- Presents financial statements to Board of Directors and Finance Committee.
- Assists with implementation of accounting/finance related policies and procedures, as well as monitoring adherence to such policies and procedures.
- Manages the relationship with MHM's outside accounting firm, including coordination of annual audits and tax returns.
- Coordinates the external audit process and the scope of the audit with the Audit Committee.
- Completes special projects for President / CEO and for Board committees.
- Works with the Vice President of Human Resources on selecting vendors for employee benefits and on merit / salary increases on an annual basis. Assists with development of personnel policies and procedures.
Investment / Financing:
- Manages all financial aspects related to investing and financing options.
- Monitors adherence to investment and spending policy, and other financial matters.
- Manages debt arrangements and compliance with debt covenants.
- Monitors cash requirements for daily operations and forecasts future cash commitments for programs.
- Works closely with CFO of Methodist Healthcare System to monitor projected and actual cash flows to and from the partnership which directly affect MHM's financing needs.
Strategic Planning:
- Responsible for financial projections and financing options for the business plans and strategic planning processes for MHM.
- Provides input to the Executive Team in determining short and long range strategic goals to be brought to the Board.
- Serves as advisor to Board in order to ensure strategic and financial goals of MHM are met.
Compliance:
- Responsible for all communications with the Internal Revenue Service, including monitoring adherence to MHM's Closing Agreement with the IRS, and managing any IRS audits.
- Supervises compliance procedures performed on grant contracts, including internal review of compliance with operational guidelines for both internal and external grants.
- Keeps knowledgeable on current IRS regulations pertaining to 501(c)(3) entities.
- Reviews annual tax returns and performs compliance testing for adherence to IRS regulations.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with all federal and state health information privacy laws. Has access to computer system containing protected health information and may have access to patient medical and dental records for purpose of audit, investigation and/or clinical practice review.
Methodist Healthcare System:
- Monitors financial and charitable performance of MHM's largest asset and key objective, Methodist Healthcare System (comprised of 13 acute care hospitals and 26 imaging centers and three ambulatory surgery centers), through participation and attendance at Board of Governors, Finance, Compliance and Ethics, & Community Benefit Committee meetings.
- Chairs the MHS Charity Committee (staff committee) which meets at least quarterly to discuss pertinent issues relating to providing and identifying hospital charity care and community benefits.
Additional:
- Provide strategic oversight of the organization's facilities, maintenance operations, and real estate portfolio to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective management of all physical assets.
- Travel up to 20% within the region for meetings or other business, travel up to 10% for partnership meetings and investment meetings.
- Build strong, positive relationships with key administrative and clinical leaders, firmly establishing trust and credibility.
- Candidates are required to have a minimum of eight years of top level, successful and progressive accounting or financial management experience, preferably in a healthcare provider setting or with a major CPA or consulting firm.
- Advanced knowledge of budget development, control and evaluation, financial forecasting, cost finding and analysis.
- Demonstrated experience with federal, state and local accounting standards and requirements of regulatory and accreditation agencies.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of information systems, specifically financial information management and computer information technology systems.
- A strong business orientation with the ability to “go beyond the numbers” in helping the executive team identify and develop opportunities for optimizing assets and strengthening the organization’s financial performance.
