Korn Ferry has partnered with leading nonprofit, affordable housing developer and owner BRIDGE Housing, in a search for a Senior Counsel / Associate General Counsel, in a mission-driven environment with real community impact.

The Organization

Founded in 1983, BRIDGE Housing has developed, acquired, or preserved more than 17,000 homes serving over 40,000 residents across California, Oregon, and Washington.

BRIDGE operates a sophisticated and mission-driven platform spanning real estate development, asset management, operations, and community-focused resident support. The organization regularly works with public agencies, lenders, investors, and operating partners to deliver housing solutions in complex regulatory and economic environments.

The Role

The Senior Counsel / Associate General Counsel role serves as a trusted legal advisor and key legal partner across the organization’s real estate development and operating platform. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel, this attorney will provide hands-on, business-facing legal support on a broad range of real estate transactions, commercial agreements, and corporate matters. The scope is expected to evolve over time based on the needs of the business and the growth of the legal function.

Highlights:

  • Lead and support real estate transactions across BRIDGE’s development and operating platform by drafting and negotiating core transaction documents, partnering with internal teams on deal structure, diligence, risk allocation, and closings, and coordinating with stakeholders and outside counsel on specialized transaction-related matters.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review commercial agreements and provide day-to-day corporate legal support while developing templates and processes that improve consistency, efficiency, and risk management, and helping the business balance legal protection with practical, solutions-oriented execution.
  • Advise internal business leaders on legal risk and compliance across development, construction, real estate operations, and corporate matters while collaborating cross‑functionally to support decision‑making, managing outside counsel cost‑effectively, and handling multiple legal issues with sound judgment on prioritization and escalation.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. State bar; California bar membership or the ability to register as in-house counsel in California is required.
  • 8 to 12+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally including foundational training in a law firm and/or experience in a sophisticated in-house legal environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with real estate transactions and commercial contracting is required.
  • Familiarity or interest in working for a mission-driven non-profit organization is a plus.
  • Exposure to affordable housing and tax credit work is also a plus.

Compensation:
  • Total Compensation $200-$300k. Offers a comprehensive benefits package, paid time off, annual bonus(es), 401K, healthcare.

Location:
  • Los Angeles & San Francisco, CA/Hybrid 3-4 days in office. Travel expected 10-15%.
