The Opportunity:

Clinical Ancillary services at Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) are essential to delivering safe, efficient, and effective care across all patient populations. The Vice President, Clinical Ancillary Services is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the following Clinical Ancillary services across BHS’s hospitals and clinics: Clinical Lab Services, Imaging Services, Inpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy services (including retail & specialty pharmacy), Rehabilitation Services (Inpatient Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy, Outpatient Rehabilitation), Radiation oncology, Dialysis (Inpatient and Outpatient), Sleep Medicine, and Wound Care. The 550+ person team in Clinical Ancillary Services plays a pivotal role in every aspect of care delivery and Clinical Ancillary Services encompasses over $210M+ in expenses and contributes to $1B+ of gross revenue.

The Vice President, Clinical Ancillary Services (VP) is a critical system-level leadership position, responsible for leading all clinical ancillary services across BHS. Reporting directly to the President & Chief Operating Officer, this leader will ensure that clinical ancillary services align with the organization’s clinical and operational goals, supporting high-quality, efficient, and integrated care across all locations. The VP will be instrumental in advancing strategic initiatives, optimizing operations, and enhancing patient and caregiver experiences.

The VP is expected to be a highly strategic, results-oriented, effective, experienced, consensus-building leader who will inspire as well as bring discipline and operational improvement to the organization as it continues to be mission-driven and outward facing in its commitment to the communities it serves. The individual will share the vision and values of Berkshire Health Systems, demonstrate great integrity, and be seen by all stakeholders as trustworthy, transparent, and optimistic.


Key Responsibilities: 

-Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive clinical ancillary services strategy that aligns with Berkshire Health System’s mission and strategic goals, supporting patient-centered, high-quality care.

-Operational Oversight: Lead operations across all clinical ancillary service lines, ensuring seamless integration with clinical care teams, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in patient outcomes and satisfaction.

-Service Optimization: Drive initiatives to improve service efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance accessibility, ensuring high operational standards in pharmacy, imaging, laboratory, rehabilitation services, and other ancillary services.

-Financial Stewardship: Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, revenue optimization, and cost control measures, ensuring that clinical ancillary services contribute to the overall fiscal health of the organization.

-Team Leadership: Mentor and develop a team of leaders and professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

-Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with clinical, nursing, and administrative leadership to ensure that clinical ancillary services are integrated into patient care workflows, promoting a seamless care experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

-Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience and demonstrated success with significant operational accountability within a healthcare environment.

-Proven leadership experience overseeing clinical ancillary services (e.g. pharmacy (including specialty and retail pharmacy), imaging, laboratory, rehabilitation), as well as broader hospital operations, with a focus on optimizing service delivery and patient outcomes.

-Demonstrated ability to balance high-level strategic vision with hands-on operational engagement; be willing to “roll up their sleeves” to understand complex clinical ancillary workflows and address immediate challenges, while simultaneously driving long-term strategies that align with organizational goals.

-Must have a strong understanding of community-based healthcare, including regulatory requirements, patient care standards and the unique challenges faced by community-based healthcare organizations.

-Operational leadership experience in a multi-hospital healthcare system is critical.

-Track record of building partnerships across disciplines, especially nursing, and driving organizational performance through collaboration and accountability.

-Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.

-Highly analytical with the ability to interpret and communicate complex data metrics.

-Proven ability to drive organizational change and a reputation as a champion of change who is skilled at getting individuals and teams to work synergistically.

-Successful experience in solving complex problems and process improvement methodology (i.e., Lean, Six Sigma or other) and success utilizing technology to help improve operations and efficiency.

-A demonstrated commitment to high-quality, patient-centric care driven by the needs of the community.

-An appreciation for transparency as an important attribute that is valued in this highly collaborative environment.

-Prior experience in a union environment is strongly preferred.

-A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is highly preferred.
