PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
- In collaboration with the President, Acute Care Hospital Division and senior leadership team, leverages innovation of current resources and systems and explores and prepares for new models of care that support population health and positions the hospital competitively in the market while responding to the dynamic needs of the community.
- Provide adept and visionary leadership in setting RMC’s near-term priorities and long-term strategic imperatives. Set strategic direction and develop appropriate tactical plans to meet these strategic objectives.
- Conduct ongoing reviews of the marketplace. Identifies and pursues new business opportunities to increase market share and achieve revenue targets.
- Coordinate the efforts and direct the RMC leadership team in planning for the future, particularly in the areas of strategic and financial planning, and the development and further expansion of various service lines.
- Establishes effective working relationships with key constituents, including community, employed and independent physicians, team members, and board members through open collaboration and consistent communication. Creates a greater sense of 'systemness' throughout the Hospital.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with major donors, philanthropists, and community leaders by earning trust and respect, while playing a key visible leadership role in advancing the hospital’s philanthropic efforts.
- Partners with system leadership to foster a culture that encourages quality, excellence, and superior results in patient, employee, and physician engagement.
- Continuously assess the climate of physician and employee relations across RMC. The President will proactively engage physicians and employees in regular communication and will recognize fully the importance of ongoing collaboration and open dialogue.
- Exhibits leadership and fosters commitment to continuous quality improvement of quality, safety and the human experience whereby decision-making is driven by data analytics to achieve customer loyalty. Works with hospital and organizational leadership and team members to foster high reliability thinking with sensitivity to operations, a preoccupation with failure, deference to expertise, resilience, and a reluctance to simplify the complexity of the system.
- Enhances a culture of accountability at all levels. Establishes a disciplined, metrics-driven approach to decision making and performance measurement.
- Identifies operational improvement opportunities through evaluation and enhancement of existing initiatives. Applies operating efficiencies and evaluates programs and services to ensure productivity targets are identified, attainable, and sustainable.
- Drives and sustains excellence across all key hospital metrics, including but not limited to: inpatient and ambulatory operations, patient experience, employee engagement, physician satisfaction, financial performance, and quality and safety scores.
- Develops and fosters effective collaboration between clinical departments, matrixed care transformation services, employed and independent physicians, and other affiliated services both within and outside the hospital to ensure a wholly integrated approach to providing services, and fulfilling the hospital's strategic initiatives.
- Holds regular departmental and interdepartmental meetings to ensure strong communication among medical staff, nursing, and other healthcare constituents. Works closely with all leaders to ensure effective and coordinated delivery of patient care.
- Manages and/or assists in the recruitment, development and supervision of team members. Creates and sustains an environment that fosters trust and team member engagement. Establishes clear objectives tied to department and/or organizational strategic goals. Coaches, counsels and evaluates performance of direct reports.
- Creates a positive work environment that supports employee retention and satisfaction. Remains actively involved in talent development and mentoring. Ensures appropriate senior staff are in place to deliver optimal service levels.
- Keeps abreast of latest trends and issues related to health care. Ensures that staff is informed and current on all legislative and regulatory matters.
- Involved in the development and management of budget for assigned areas. Regularly monitors relevant key financial indicators and performance metrics, modifying business activities where needed in response to changing financial situations.
- Ensures long-term financial and operational success through achievement of budgetary, financial, and operational goals consistent with HMH’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.
- Tracks, analyzes, and reports on relevant data and metrics as needed and/or requested. Develops, recommends and/or implements actions or process improvements as appropriate.
Experience and Professional Qualifications
The successful candidate for the President, Chief Hospital Executive role will possess the following:
- Ten (10) years of experience in strategic hospital operations.
- Five (5) years of experience of progressive senior level experience as a proven health system/hospital operator within a high-performing, fast-paced organization.
- Possess an excellent operational and financial track record with demonstrated success in building and maintaining a strong operating organization, reinforcing the mission and culture of an enterprise and developing key staff members for future advancement.
- Experience in leading and implementing innovative quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives that achieve superior clinical quality, favorable financial outcomes, and high patient/physician/and employee satisfaction.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic business plans that ensure people, systems, and processes are coordinated, integrated, and aligned for optimal organizational performance.
- A “systems thinker” who demonstrates an understanding of balancing system and entity priorities, innovative thinking, and knowledge of healthcare systems and hospital operations, budgeting, financial management practices, and business development.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising, with a strong track record of securing philanthropic support, highly visible in the community and skilled at building and sustaining relationships with both prospective and current donors.
- Proven track record of building trust-based relationships with independent providers and physician groups, leveraging innovative approaches to strengthen alignment, enhance collaboration, and create mutually beneficial partnership models that support clinical excellence and strategic growth.
- Demonstrated leadership and complex organizational management skills. Results-orientation and hands-on administrative ability are required. Must be a visible leader in their organization.
- Possess a reputation as a champion of change who is skilled at getting individuals and teams to work together synergistically.
- Demonstrated ability to create and/or use systems and processes to improve the performance of the business and business units and achieve high patient/physician/employee satisfaction.
- Proven ability to build positive, effective relationships and work from a position of influence with employees, clinical and physician leaders, as well as diverse management teams to set and execute performance goals.

Education
Required:
- Master’s degree - Business Administration or Hospital Administration.
