THE OPPORTUNITY

MultiCare is seeking a new Market Leader for South King County and President for Auburn and Covington Medical Centers, a community based 195 bed level III trauma center and 58 bed medical center. The South King Market Leader and President will also provide the strategy and vision for the South King Market in conjunction with medical group and population health leadership teams. MultiCare provides several critical ambulatory services across the South King market including behavioral health, Indigo Urgent Care, women's and children's, sports medicine, Pulse Heart Institute, Cancer Institute, and comprehensive primary and specialty care services.

With more than 23,000 team members and a network of 13 hospitals, MultiCare ($7B net revenues) has grown from a Tacoma-centric, hospital-based organization into the largest, not-for-profit, community-based, and locally governed health system in the state of Washington.  MultiCare is on a fast growth trajectory with the goal of serving one third of the population in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska by 2026 through a combination of direct service provision or in partnership with others. To fulfill that goal, MultiCare has been embarking on market expansion, improving access to care and services through a variety of vehicles, a performance excellence program and population health strategy.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Chief Executive, East & West Pierce, and Capital Pacific Regions & Behavioral Health, the Market Leader and President of South King will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with system leadership and infrastructure departments to offer the best services possible and strategically position the hospital and market for long term success. This will include growing market share and clinical services, increasing number of lives, enhancing/expanding programs and services offered in South King, improving quality and financial performance, developing excellent relationships with the medical staff, physicians, employees, unions, leadership team, community, and donors. Operating in a hybrid model with local autonomy for strategic growth in markets served and utilizing shared infrastructure functions, the new Market Leader and President must enhance financial and operations performance of the market and the hospital's quality and safety, employee, physician, and medical staff engagement, and serve as an advocate for capital.

This executive also has regional board governance responsibilities over the South King Regional Board in partnership with the regional board chair. The primary objective of the regional board is to ensure that MultiCare’s mission, vision, and values are advanced at the hospital and facilities within the primary service area of the region. The regional board is a standing committee of the MultiCare Health System Board of Directors, with the authority granted to it and the duties imposed on it by the MultiCare Health System Board of Directors, and by the medical staff bylaws and rules and regulations of the hospital and other facilities operated by MultiCare in the region. The Regional Board’s service area shall include the MultiCare hospital in the region, as well as the medical staff of the hospital, and providers in the region’s facilities.

MultiCare is seeking a seasoned healthcare leader for this role. Ideally the next Market Leader and President will have executive leadership experience in a large complex hospital setting within a well-functioning health system, actively live/embrace/model the values of MultiCare (respect, integrity, stewardship, excellence, collaboration and kindness), have superb strategic leadership skills while ensuring operational and financial excellence, and be able to develop excellent working relationships with all medical staff (employed, contracted, as well community physicians) based on trust. Must be a strong relationship builder, an inspirational leader, able to motivate, mentor and develop the team. A good problem solver who can drive results, improve culture, and grow the organization will be ideal. An innate focus on improving quality/safety is essential. Qualified candidates will possess ten years recent administrative experience in a health care delivery system, which includes five years at a hospital executive level, ideally as a President or CEO. A Master's degree is required.
