Lehigh Athletics and Position Description:

Lehigh Athletics brings distinction to the University through a championship culture that fosters student-athlete success, contributes to a vibrant campus community, celebrates victories and instills Mountain Hawk pride.

The Dean of Athletics / Athletic Director will report to the President of the University and has overall responsibility for all aspects of the Department of Athletics including the visionary leadership, strategic development, management, coordination and supervision of a comprehensive NCAA Division 1 intercollegiate program with 25 men’s and women’s sports teams and over 25 different club sports teams. The Dean of Athletics / Athletic Director will be responsible for compliance with all institutional, Patriot League, and NCAA policies, rules and regulations..

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience as an executive in collegiate sports, adjacent industry, or similar executive leadership role.
  • Experience working in a complex, dynamic, and diverse stakeholder environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Division 1 intercollegiate athletics administration.
  • A demonstrated understanding of Title IX and Gender Equity.


Duties and responsibilities: (included but are not limited to)

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the athletic department, aligning with the university’s mission and values.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and sufficient financial competencies to oversee the Lehigh University athletics budget.
  • Represent Lehigh University athletics at institutional, community, state, and national meetings.
  • Advises the President and senior administrative officers on issues relating to intercollegiate athletics, its trends, problems and other pertinent matters.
  • Develop, mentor, and retain coaches and staff.
  • Commitment to supporting the holistic student-athlete with special consideration to mental health and overall wellness of student-athletes.
  • Lead significantly in university fundraising activities to set and meet annual fundraising goals for athletics.
  • Demonstrates a collaborative management style to work across campus with all constituencies of the University.
  • Encourage and promote an equitable and inclusive community among all students and departmental staff.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner consistent with the University’s standards of conduct and always demonstrate professionalism.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.
