NYU Langone, a world-class integrated academic health system, seeks a Chief Executive Officer & Dean of the NYU Grossman School of Medicine (CEO & Dean) to advance its mission to care, to teach, and to discover and nurture its unique culture of exceptionalism. NYU Langone desires, at every level and in every role, to put patients first and to deliver the best outcomes.

After 17 years of radical improvements across the organization and seeding a culture of exceptionalism throughout its 49,000 employees, NYU Langone is one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers. U.S. News & World Report ranked 13 of NYU Langone’s specialties in the top 20 in the country and awarded it second highest total score in the nation. For the second year in a row, NYU Langone achieved No. 1 rankings for both our ambulatory network and its Manhattan campus from Vizient, Inc. And, for the first time, NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island received the No. 1 ranking in its cohort of large, specialized complex medical centers from Vizient, Inc. These recognitions, plus straight A’s for quality and safety from the Leapfrog Group, Magnet designation for nursing excellence at all of its inpatient hospitals, and five stars from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, make it clear that NYU Langone is on a different tier than its peers.

In 2013, NYU Grossman School of Medicine was the first nationally ranked academic health system to offer an accelerated three-year medical degree. Then, in 2018—through a groundswell of generosity from numerous supporters—the school once again made history. NYU Grossman School of Medicine became the first top-ranked medical school in the nation to provide full-tuition scholarships to all new and current students.

NYU Langone is one of the largest health systems in the Northeast—employing more than 49,000 people, including over 4,500 physicians, all dedicated to the tripartite mission to care, to teach, and to discover. Since 2007, NYU Langone added 10.6 million square feet of hospital, ambulatory care, and research facilities, anchored by five state-of-the-art inpatient facilities, and growing from 43 ambulatory sites to more than 300 today. It adapted rapidly to the drastic changes in surgical and medical care and provides its care in a dense network of outpatient locations in the New York City region and in Florida, with 60 percent of all care delivered in ambulatory settings. Total revenues grew from $2 billion to $14 billion in 2024, with an operating margin for the hospitals of 8.2 percent and for the health system of 2.9 percent.

In the same period, fundraising, led by the Board, raised more than $5 billion, fueling the transformation and enabling both world-class care and unprecedented academic success.

The CEO & Dean reports to the Chair of the Board of Trustees of NYU Langone Health and the Chair of the Board of Trustees of New York University. They exercise active control over the academic affairs and business of NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYU Langone Health. The mission to care, teach, and discover is achieved through the leadership and supervision of 54 direct reports, which includes 14 mission and corporate senior leaders, 28 academic department chairs, six institute directors (some of whom have dual roles for academic departments), and oversight of NYU Langone officers, agents, and employees. The next CEO & Dean of NYU Langone will continue to lead the effort to build synergy across the parts and to sustain an agile, integrated system.
