The Company operates in the highly fragmented, customer-focused truckload and dedicated market and with its scale and density, is poised for continued growth and outperformance of the market. The Company is seeking scale and improve its operations as it implements its plan to accelerate growth via strategic business development and acquisitions. As such, The Company is looking to hire a Vice President of Operations.
The Vice President of Operations will have overall operational responsibility for the business. The VP is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the company’s day-to-day operations within the transportation, logistics, and brokerage business. This leadership role ensures operational efficiency, cost control, and the delivery of high-quality services to customers. The VP will develop and implement strategic initiatives to improve performance, increase profitability, and maintain compliance with industry regulations, while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Specific responsibilities include:
Operational Management:
- Develop a culture of operational excellence by creating a best-in-class experience for our customers and professional drivers.
- Oversee daily operations across the company's transportation, logistics, and brokerage distribution networks, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and reliable service delivery.
- Optimize the use of resources (fleet, personnel, technology) to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity.
- Implement continual process improvements, leveraging data and technology to streamline workflows, reduce costs, analyze lane profitability, and improve service delivery.
- Establish the KPIs and accountability needed to deliver business plan results.
- Develop contingency plans and lead responses to operational disruptions or emergencies to ensure continuity of service.
- Partner with the Safety team to ensure all operations comply with relevant transportation regulations and safety standards.
- Partner with Maintenance team to ensure driver performance meeting expectations in critical areas such as MPG performance.
- Proactively identify opportunities for expanding transportation and logistics networks, strategically allocating resources and capacity to meet current and future customer demand while maximizing operational flexibility.
Financial Oversight:
- Complete P&L ownership for all business divisions within the company.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas of improvement and address operational inefficiencies.
- Work closely with finance to analyze cost drivers and implement cost-saving initiatives.
- Identify and assess strategic opportunities to diversify revenue streams, leveraging market trends, service innovation, and operational assets to expand the company’s financial footprint and resilience.
Customer and Partner Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and partners to ensure long-term business success.
- Maintain a growth-orientated approach and ensure the team is actively working to grow our business with existing customers.
- Partner closely with the Sales team to understand customer requirements, provide operational insights during the sales process, and ensure that operational capabilities align with customer service level agreements (SLAs).
- Address and resolve any operational challenges or service issues to support long-term customer relationships.
- Play a critical role in the successful onboarding and operational setup of new customer accounts, ensuring seamless integration into the company’s logistics and transportation network.
Technology & Innovation:
- Oversee the optimization of technology platforms, such as transportation management systems (TMS), fleet tracking, and route optimization software.
- Research emerging trends and innovations in transportation and logistics to maintain a competitive edge.
Executive Leadership:
- Contribute proactively and respectfully to a culture of innovation across all functional areas, elevating the company’s operational and financial performance.
- Craft and oversee the execution of long-term strategic plans focused on expanding market reach, increasing profitability, and maximizing asset utilization.
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Recruit, develop, and retain top talent, providing coaching, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance team performance and capabilities.
- Contribute as part of the Leadership Team with a voice in our strategy planning and direction of the company.
- Be an ambassador of the Company culture with the purpose of building a great place to work.
- Coach and develop the future leaders of the organization to build succession planning across the organization.
- Lead across all functional departments.
Candidate Profile Overview
Key Experiences & Qualifications
- Operations/General Manager Experience: Proven track record of operational P&L leadership experience and has successfully managing large-scale transportation operations and driving cost-saving initiatives.
- Deep Industry Expertise: Experience and leadership in transportation and logistics—specific oversight of freight contracts, carrier operations, and logistics operations. The VP must also have experience with transportation management systems (TMS), route optimization, and other logistics technologies.
- Regulatory and Compliance Expertise: In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements as it pertains to fleet operations.
- Change Management: Skilled at bringing operations improvement initiatives to fruition while managing the process and capable of projecting how potential changes may play out in the organization.
- Strategic M&A/ Integration Experience: Proven track record in strategic M&A, with expertise in identifying synergies, driving integration efforts, and maximizing value creation across complex organizational structures.
- Organic Growth: Candidates will have demonstrated the ability to execute a profitable growth strategy in a competitive service marketplace. Places emphasis on competition, customer and external focus, drive for results, and building market share.
- Strategic Leader: Strategic mindset with the ability to analyze complex situations, anticipate trends, and develop innovative strategies. Long-term planning skills to align organizational objectives with market opportunities and industry trends.
Education & Certificates
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, supply chain, or related field.
